Statistical mechanical model of gas adsorption in porous crystals with dynamic moieties.

چکیده
Some nanoporous, crystalline materials possess dynamic constituents, for example, rotatable moieties. These moieties can undergo a conformation change in response to the adsorption of guest molecules, which qualitatively impacts adsorption behavior. We pose and solve a statistical mechanical model of gas adsorption in a porous crystal whose cages share a common ligand that can adopt two distinct rotational conformations. Guest molecules incentivize the ligands to adopt a different rotational configuration than maintained in the empty host. Our model captures inflections, steps, and hysteresis that can arise in the adsorption isotherm as a signature of the rotating ligands. The insights disclosed by our simple model contribute a more intimate understanding of the response and consequence of rotating ligands integrated into porous materials to harness them for gas storage and separations, chemical sensing, drug delivery, catalysis, and nanoscale devices. Particularly, our model reveals design strategies to exploit these moving constituents and engineer improved adsorbents with intrinsic thermal management for pressure-swing adsorption processes.

Lattice Gas Automata Simulation of Adsorption Process of Polymer in Porous Media
Lattice gas automata (LGA) model is developed to simulate polymer adsorption process by adding some collision rules. The simulation result of the model is matched with batch experiment and compared with accepted isothermal adsorption equations. They show that the model is viable to perform simulation of the polymer adsorption process. The LGA model is then applied for simulating continuous poly...

Fractional flow analysis confirms the advantages of surfactant alternative gas injection (SAG) in enhanced oil recovery, but an adsorption phenomenon that has been affected by several factors, weakens the effectiveness of SAG injection. In this study, the effects of sacrificial agent, gas phase, and surfactant concentration on adsorption density on silica mineral were investigated by static and...
متن کاملGas-liquid Relative Permeability Estimation in 2D Porous Media by Lattice Boltzmann Method: Low Viscosity Ratio 2D LBM Relative Permeability
This work is a primary achievement in studying the CO2 and N2–oil systems. To predict gas-liquid relative permeability curves, a Shan-Chen type multicomponent multiphase lattice Boltzmann model for two-phase flow through 2D porous media is developed. Periodic and bounce back boundary conditions are applied to the model with the Guo scheme for the external body force (i.e.,...

Effect of water gas shift reaction (CO+H2O=CO2+H2) on wustite reduction has been investigated by a transient, non-isothermal mathematical model based on grain model. In this model, wustite porous pellet is reduced using Syngas, namely a mixture of hydrogen, carbon monoxide, carbon dioxide and water vapor. For this purpose, governing equations containing continuity equation of species and energy...
